Salary Range: $110k-$130k annually
Location: Chicago (Initially 1st 90 days in office 100%) Then hybrid remote with in person meetings once per week (Must live in the Chicago, IL area in order to be considered)

Position Overview
We’re looking for an AI Engineer with expertise in applied machine learning and production-service level grade AI systems. You will lead the development of AI initiatives, from intelligent agents and workflow optimization to custom models and fine-tuning. You’ll work closely with product design for scalable, user-facing product offerings that create value.
This is a highly impactful role for someone who thrives in fast-paced environments. We welcome research level thinking to apply this to applications and final execution.

Responsibilities

• Architect and implement machine learning models, with a focus on performance, scalability, and experimentation.
• Work with unstructured data including images, video, audio, text, and sensor data.
• Build intelligent systems for perception, decision-making, prediction, or control — depending on the project.
• Rapidly prototype ideas while balancing robustness and research-grade curiosity.
• Collaborate closely with hardware and product teams.
• Help define the future of AI inside Special Projects — including tooling, infrastructure, and capability roadmap.

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science (required)
• 5 years of experience working as a QA Software Engineer in a small to midsized company (required)
• Live within the Chicago, IL area (required)
• 5+ years of experience in AI/ML engineering or applied research.
• Proficiency in Python and JavaScript (bonus for C++ or Rust), and deep experience with ML frameworks (e.g. PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX).
• Strong fluency with no-code / low-code automation tools (n8n, Gumloop, Zapier, Make, Airtable, Notion, etc.)
• Experience in marketing tech, SaaS, or growth-focused environments
• Exposure to AI agent frameworks or multi-step agent workflows
• A portfolio of automation or AI projects you can share (personal, freelance, or internal tools all count)
• Strong grasp of data science fundamentals, model training, evaluation, and deployment at scale.
• Experience with real-world applications —computer vision, NLP, RL, time-series, or multimodal models.
• Comfortable owning projects end-to-end in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment.
• Ability to turn ambiguous problems into clear, automated workflows with excellent communication and documentation skills
• A friendly communicator: We believe this is a valuable asset to have for software engineers, as it can facilitate better teamwork, communication, and collaboration.
• Bonus: background in distributed systems, robotics or embedded ML.
