The Instructional Technologist - AI Specialist provides instructional technology consulting and support for faculty members, students, and staff to enhance teaching, research, and learning at the university. They serve as a strategic partner to campus members, staying abreast of and supporting the adoption of emerging Artificial Intelligence (AI) and related technologies, to advance student success and strengthen administrative effectiveness.
This person works with colleagues in a team environment within Faculty Instructional Technology Support and the Tenzer Technology Center, as well as with the Library, Information Services, and other key constituents across the University who are involved in supporting AI literacy and fluency. Essential Functions:
- AI Training & Support: Act as a primary resource for campus members on the ethical and effective use of Artificial Intelligence in higher education. Provide guidance on AI-driven content creation, literacy, and the integration of AI tools into the curriculum and university operations.
- Student Empowerment & Digital Fluency: Provide technology support designed to develop AI and digital fluency among students.
- Faculty Consulting: Partner with faculty to identify and implement instructional technology solutions in pedagogy and instruction.
- Institutional Productivity & Technical Literacy : Consult with university staff and departments to help them leverage AI and emerging tools to enhance professional growth and the overall administrative operations of their respective area.
- Training & Development: Develop and lead technology workshops and maintain support materials for faculty, students, and staff with an emphasis on AI tools, literacy, and emerging technologies.
- Student Mentorship: Teach ITAP (Information Technology Associate Program) student interns and assist in the mentoring, training, and supervision of student staff members.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in instructional technology, information technology, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in instructional technology, educational technology, or a closely related field required.
- Experience in providing instructional technology, technical, or related training in a higher education environment, particularly at a liberal arts institution, strongly preferred.

Technical Expertise:
- Demonstrated expertise in current AI tools, platforms, and technologies, including generative AI, large language models, and AI-driven content creation tools.
- Demonstrated experience integrating AI tools into instructional, research, or administrative workflows.
- Experience applying AI literacy frameworks to support the critical and ethical evaluation of AI tools across diverse user groups.
- Experience supporting non-technical users in adopting new technologies.
- Experience designing and facilitating workshops or training sessions for both student and adult learners.
- Familiarity with emerging AI developments and the ability to evaluate new tools for institutional relevance and appropriateness
