AI Product Builder (Student / Recent Grad)
CMMD · Los Angeles, US
Job description
AI Product Builder
- Great for students on summer break or recent grads for summer work or ongoing.
- In person in San Dimas, CA.
- Contract role.
- You do NOT need to know how to code. We'll teach you.
- You should be a quick learner and be adept at technology.
-- The Details...
CMMD is looking for a small group of sharp, design-minded builders to help us build the trusted operating system for the AI era.
This is a contract role for people with strong technology intuition, good taste, and the ability to learn quickly. You do not need to be a traditional software engineer. You do need to care deeply about how products work, how they feel, how they look, and whether they actually help real people.
We care more about judgment, curiosity, coachability, and execution than formal credentials.
--
About CMMD
CMMD (command) is building the operational layer for modern teams: a trusted system where AI, memory, strategy, and execution come together.
Brain
Persistent operational memory for documents, decisions, relationships, and context.
Sidekick
An AI coach and execution partner that helps people think, decide, and act.
Forge
An AI-native build and agent workflow layer.
Apex
CMMD’s model and routing layer.
Workflow Apps
Strategy, meetings, scorecards, goals, projects, tasks, communication, and team execution.
--
The Simple Version
CMMD is not trying to be another tab, chatbot, or project management tool. We’re building the system intelligence runs inside.
CMMD is already operating inside multiple organizations and soon active Alpha environments. You will be building on a real product used by real teams—not a pitch deck.
--
Why This Matters
Computers were supposed to give people time back.
Instead, they pulled more of life into screens.
- More tabs
- More notifications
- More tools
- More systems competing for attention
The same thing is happening at work.
Companies are drowning in software, AI tools, disconnected systems, and endless context switching. Every new product promises productivity, but somehow work becomes more fragmented.
AI can create exciting moments and real wins.
But without a system focused on clarity, context, trust, and execution, AI becomes another source of noise.
CMMD exists to reverse that pattern.
We are building technology that helps people focus on what matters most, act with clearer context, and command their universe instead of being commanded by their software.
The work is not just about shipping features.
It’s about helping build a platform that gives people and teams more clarity, more agency, and more time for the work and life that actually matter.
--
Why We Are Hiring
CMMD and PBS are forming a small pod-based builder team to accelerate Alpha and Beta development.
The goal is not to create a giant team.
The goal is to find capable builders who can use modern AI tools, follow strong technical guardrails, and help turn real product feedback into useful work.
This is a good fit for someone who wants meaningful responsibility early, wants to be trained, and is comfortable being challenged.
--
This Is Not A Good Fit If You:
- Need every step handed to you
- Avoid feedback
- Want to hide behind AI-generated work
- Think AI tools eliminate the need for quality
--
What You Will Work On
Depending on fit and team needs, you may help with:
- Testing real user flows and identifying friction
- Improving product screens, workflows, and UI details
- Turning customer feedback into shipped improvements
- Building and refining Business Operating System workflows
- Improving mobile usability and responsiveness
- Supporting QA, staging review, and release readiness
- Creating documentation and feedback-to-ticket workflows
- Using AI-assisted development tools under review from senior builders
You will use AI heavily. That is part of the role.
But AI does not replace judgment, taste, discipline, or follow-through.
The best builders understand that tools can generate work.
Builders are responsible for whether the work is actually good.
--
What Success Looks Like In The First 90 Days
By the end of your first few months, successful builders will have:
- Shipped meaningful improvements into the product
- Contributed high-quality work reviewed and merged by the team
- Helped improve workflows used by real organizations
- Demonstrated strong attention to detail
- Earned trust through consistency and follow-through
- Improved their ability to turn ideas into working products
The standard is not activity. The standard is useful progress.
--
Who We Are Looking For
This role may be a strong fit if you are:
- A current student, recent graduate, early-career builder, or exceptionally self-taught
- Naturally curious about software, AI, design, and systems
- Strong at noticing small UX and product details
- Comfortable learning new tools quickly
- Detail-oriented enough to follow instructions exactly
- Reliable enough that people do not have to chase you
- Humble enough to take direct feedback
- Persistent enough to work through ambiguity
- Excited about building products for real users
--
What Is Not Required
You do not need:
- A computer science degree
- Professional software engineering experience
- Deep frontend or backend expertise
- Prior startup experience
- A perfect resume
Those things can help. They are not the filter.
The filter is whether you can learn, care, execute, and improve quickly.
--
What Is Required
You should bring:
- Strong technology intuition
- Good design sense
- Practical UX/UI awareness
- Clear written communication
- High attention to detail
- Willingness to follow technical guardrails
- Comfort working in a direct, high-standard environment
- Ability to revise your work after feedback
- Genuine interest in AI-assisted product building
--
What You Will Become
We believe the next generation of builders will not be defined by whether they can write code from scratch.
They will be defined by whether they can understand problems, use AI effectively, exercise judgment, and turn ideas into working products.
That is what we are building toward.
If you are ambitious, coachable, and willing to do the work, this role will expose you to product thinking, AI systems, software development, operations, design, and startup execution at a level most people do not see until much later in their careers.
--
What You Will Get
You will get our best.
We show up excited to do things that have not been done before, and we care deeply about the mission we are working toward.
You will learn from experienced builders, operators, founders, and leaders.
You will take on real responsibility.
You will do work that matters.
As CMMD grows, some contractors may be invited to apply for full-time roles.
For now, we are focused on contract, in-person roles because that allows the team to move faster, learn faster, and build stronger relationships.

A Straight Answer About The Role
This is not a fake internship where you watch from the sidelines. It is also not a loose vibe-coding experiment where anything generated by AI is considered good enough.
You will be using powerful tools.
The standard will be real product quality.
We are looking for people who want to become genuinely useful builders—people with taste, discipline, resilience, curiosity, and the ability to keep improving.
If that sounds exciting, send us a note.
