Director, Digital Solutions & Technology
Natus Medical Incorporated · Copenhagen, DK
Job description
FOR MORE THAN 80 YEARS, Natus has been committed to serving the varying needs of clinicians, delivering the highest-quality solutions to raise the standard of care for patients everywhere.
Our comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic sensory solutions are designed to simplify workflows for sensory specialists, ensuring care teams have the right instrumentation to give patients the right support — and greater peace of mind.
About the Role
The Director of Digital Platform & Solutions leads our multidisciplinary engineering teams — spanning software, firmware, and electrical hardware — across our hearing and balance product portfolio. This is both a strategic and hands-on leadership role: you will define platform architecture, set technology direction, and deliver digital solutions that meet the highest standards of performance, cybersecurity, and regulatory compliance.
You will report into the Head of R&D and serve as a senior voice on the R&D leadership team, shaping how we engineer, organize, and evolve our digital capabilities over a 5–8 year horizon.
What You'll Do
Leadership & People Development
- Lead, coach, and develop software, firmware, hardware, product security, and DevOps engineers across the division.
- Build a high-performance engineering culture grounded in collaboration, quality, and accountability.
- Partner with R&D directors and functional leads to align digital roadmaps with organizational capability development.
AI Transformation & Technology Strategy
- Drive the integration of AI and machine learning into product features — including intelligent signal processing, adaptive algorithms, and AI-enhanced diagnostics for audiology devices.
- Champion AI-assisted development practices: LLM-augmented code review, automated testing, generative design tools, and intelligent documentation workflows.
- Lead evaluation, prototyping, and adoption of emerging AI/ML technologies across the digital engineering stack.
- Define and own digital platform architecture, reusable AI/ML frameworks, and long-range technology roadmaps.
Platform Architecture & Digital Engineering
- Ensure high-quality design and implementation of embedded systems, digital electronics, and software platforms.
- Establish best practices for code quality, hardware design controls, configuration management, and documentation.
- Drive adoption of automated software testing frameworks — including unit, integration, and regression testing — to improve release confidence, reduce defect escape rates, and support continuous delivery pipelines.
- Oversee software and firmware development lifecycles in alignment with regulatory requirements (IEC 62304, cybersecurity guidance for medical devices).
- Drive architectural coherence and platform reusability across the product portfolio.
Cross-Functional & Product Delivery
- Partner with Systems Engineering to translate clinical and product requirements into robust technical solutions.
- Support cross-functional design reviews, architecture decisions, and stage-gate product development processes.
- Ensure integrated digital solutions meet cybersecurity, regulatory, and performance requirements across Class I and II device categories.
What We're Looking For
Required
- 10+ years of progressive engineering experience with 5+ years in a digital engineering leadership role.
- Deep expertise in embedded systems, firmware, software architecture, and digital electronics.
- Proven experience leading AI/ML integration into product development — ideally in hardware-adjacent or regulated environments.
- Strong command of software and hardware development lifecycle management in regulated industries (IEC 62304, cybersecurity, design controls).
- Track record of building and scaling high-performing, cross-disciplinary engineering teams.
- Ability to operate at both strategic and architectural levels — vision-setting and hands-on technical guidance.
Preferred
- Experience in medical devices, audiology, or diagnostic instrumentation.
- Familiarity with AI/ML toolchains for embedded or real-time systems (e.g., TensorFlow Lite, ONNX, edge inference).
- Experience with DevOps/DevSecOps practices and CI/CD pipelines for firmware and software.
Compensation and Benefits: Along with a competitive salary and pension scheme, we offer a convenient location with private parking lot, as well as close proximity to a bus stop or within biking distance to the train station. You can look forward to catered lunch in the company canteen, breakfast on Thursdays, friendly and talented colleagues, and continuous learning opportunities.
