Job description

The AI Specialist supports the implementation of COMPASS by providing instructional, technical, and operational assistance related to AI literacy, faculty-led pilot projects, and responsible use of AI tools. This position works directly with faculty, staff, and students to translate project goals into practical applications while supporting ethical use, accessibility, and institutional alignment.

This position is primarily located on the Williamson, TN Campus and is grant funded through December, 2029. Funding of the position beyond the grant period is not guaranteed.

Essential Functions

Design and deliver AI literacy training for faculty, staff, and students

Provide hands-on support for faculty-led pilot projects, including tool selection, implementation, and documentation

Assist with development of instructional resources, training materials, and learning modules

Support student workshops and AI literacy activities in coordination with academic and student-support units

Document pilot activities and contribute materials for case studies and the AI Integration & Ethics Toolkit

Collaborate with Information Technology to support responsible AI use and alignment with institutional systems and data security practices

Assist with data collection and documentation to support evaluation and reporting

Provide ongoing guidance on effective and responsible use of AI tools in instructional and support settings

Support development, oversight of programs and services that result in enrollment, progression, retention and graduation growth for the service area.

Education, Training, and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree Required, Master’s degree preferred

Minimum of three years of experience in educational technology, instructional support, or a related technical or training role.

Experience delivering professional development or training.

Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with faculty and staff across disciplines.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Practical experience using or supporting artificial intelligence tools in instructional, student-support, or professional development contexts

Demonstrated ability to learn, evaluate, and support emerging technologies responsibly

Experience supporting faculty with course redesign or technology integration

Familiarity with learning management systems and instructional technologies

Experience in a community college or similar educational setting

Working Conditions

Normal sitting and movement in an office environment.

Visual and hand usage of a computer.

Travel to Columbia State centers and sites, business and industry locations, and other service area locations.

Varied work hours, including days, evenings or weekends as needed to carry out duties.

Hiring Salary Range: $56,680 - $68,010
