Product Owner - Artificial Intelligence
Commonwealth Bank of Australia · Sydney, AU
Job description
Product Owner - Artificial Intelligence
About Us
Join the Risk and Regulatory Intelligence Crew within CBA's Global Markets domain. We shape and execute the strategic roadmap across OTC trade reporting, market risk reporting, post-trade data infrastructure, surveillance, workflow automation and responsible AI.
We are building the next generation of AI-enabled risk, regulatory and intelligence capabilities within Global Markets.
You will help shape how AI is applied across trading, risk, surveillance, operational workflows and leadership insight generation - balancing innovation, governance and commercial outcomes in one of Australia's most complex environments.
Role Purpose
As Product Owner for an AI Squad, you will define and lead the vision, strategy and roadmap, and be accountable for shaping and scaling AI-enabled capabilities that create measurable customer, risk and business value while meeting data, privacy, legal, compliance, model risk and operational risk expectations.
You will answer the 'what and why' - ensuring AI use cases are grounded in real user problems, safe design, measurable outcomes and senior leadership insight - while partnering closely with Trading, Risk, Compliance, Legal, Privacy, Technology, Data and Analytics stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive rapid experimentation and AI concept validation to identify practical enterprise use cases.
- Stay across emerging AI capabilities, tooling and industry trends, translating innovation into scalable product opportunities.
- Define the product vision, goals and roadmap, aligned with Domain OKRs, Global Markets strategy and CBA's responsible AI expectations.
- Identify, validate and prioritise high-value AI, LLM, risk and insight use cases that improve controls, customer outcomes and leadership decision-making.
- Own end-to-end value delivery from problem framing, data readiness and feasibility assessment through experimentation, design validation, deployment, monitoring and value realisation.
- Ensure AI solutions are designed and operated responsibly, with appropriate controls across privacy, compliance, model governance, explainability and operational resilience.
- Engage and influence senior stakeholders across trading, operations, risk, compliance, legal, privacy, technology, data/analytics and leadership - driving prioritisation and trade-off decisions.
- Maintain a healthy, prioritised backlog focused on outcomes; balance value, risk, cost, speed, reuse, delivery quality and AI governance obligations.
- Drive product discovery using design thinking, user interviews, analytics, hypotheses and AI concept prototyping to validate desirability, feasibility, viability and safe use.
- Partner with engineers, data scientists, architects, risk specialists and UX/design teams to translate AI opportunities into executable plans, reusable patterns and scalable outcomes.
About You / Qualifications
Essential:
- Demonstrated experience in complex, regulated environments, ideally banking, financial services, Global Markets, risk, compliance or technology.
- Proven product leadership experience defining vision/roadmaps, converting ambiguity into prioritised backlogs and delivering measurable outcomes.
- Strong practical understanding of modern AI ecosystems including GenAI, LLMs, AI copilots, agents, automation workflows, prompt engineering and emerging tooling trends.
- Comfortable engaging deeply with technical teams on AI capabilities, limitations, architecture patterns, evaluation approaches and operational trade-offs.
- Experience navigating data, privacy, legal, compliance, operational risk and/or model risk considerations, with a strong appreciation of responsible AI, controls, auditability and human oversight.
- Exceptional senior stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the confidence to challenge constructively and drive trade-offs in high-accountability environments.
- Experience in agile squads, product discovery, user interviews, analytics, hypothesis testing, prototyping, release coordination and backlog management.
Desired / Bonus:
- Experience within Global Markets technology, surveillance, conduct risk, regulatory reporting, trading data, leadership insights or post-trade infrastructure.
- Experience delivering AI, LLM, analytics or automation use cases into production with adoption, monitoring and value measurement.
- Exposure to responsible AI frameworks, model governance, prompt engineering, MLOps/LLMOps, data lineage, data controls and cloud/data platforms.
What We Offer
- A rare opportunity to shape and scale the responsible AI capabilities for Global Markets.
- Exposure to senior stakeholders across trading, risk, compliance, technology, data and leadership in a fast-paced Global Markets environment.
- An empowered, product-led culture that values discovery, innovation, safe experimentation and measurable outcomes.
