Peregrine is building the AI-native accounting firm.

We are replacing traditional accounting production teams with autonomous agent systems that perform bookkeeping, tax preparation, document processing, reconciliation, workpaper generation, and client workflows. Human professionals become supervisors, reviewers, and advisors rather than preparers.

Our operating model is simple:

• One Operator manages 200+ clients
• AI performs production work
• CPAs review exceptions and final outputs
• Client Partners focus on relationships and advisory

The result is a fundamentally different firm with dramatically higher leverage, margins, and client capacity.

We’re looking for our Founding Engineer to architect and build the technology platform that makes this possible.

The Opportunity

This is not a feature development role.

You will be the technical co-builder of a new category: the AI-native accounting firm.

You will work directly with the founder to design and implement:

• Multi-agent accounting workflows
• Autonomous bookkeeping systems
• AI tax preparation pipelines
• Human-in-the-loop review systems
• Agent orchestration infrastructure
• Internal operating systems for firm operations
• Future client-facing AI experiences

You will own architecture decisions from day one and help define the technical DNA of the company.

What You’ll Build

Agent Operating System

Build the orchestration layer that manages:

• Agent routing
• Workflow execution
• Task queues
• Escalation paths
• Human approvals
• Confidence scoring

AI Bookkeeping Platform

Build systems that automate:

• Bank transaction categorization
• Bill capture
• Statement ingestion
• Reconciliation
• Reporting
• Exception management

AI Tax Platform

Build systems that automate:

• Document collection
• Tax document classification
• Workpaper creation
• Return preparation
• CPA review workflows
• Filing pipelines

Internal Firm OS

Build the operating system that enables:

• Operators
• Principals
• Client Partners

to manage hundreds of clients simultaneously through AI supervision rather than manual execution.

What We’re Looking For

Must Have

• 5+ years software engineering experience
• Experience building production AI systems
• Strong Python expertise
• Strong TypeScript expertise
• Experience with modern LLM frameworks
• Experience deploying cloud-native systems
• Strong system design skills
• Comfort working in ambiguity

Strongly Preferred

• Multi-agent system experience
• LangGraph, Temporal, CrewAI, OpenAI Agents SDK, or similar
• RAG architecture experience
• Workflow automation experience
• Fintech experience
• Accounting or tax technology exposure
• Startup experience (Seed to Series A)

Bonus Points

• CPA, accounting, or finance background
• Experience building internal operational software
• Experience working directly with founders
• Previous founding engineer experience

• The operating system powering one of the most efficient accounting firms in North America

Pay: $55,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
