There is currently one (1) fulltime vacancy for an Advanced Systems Engineer (ASE) AI Focused, in the Information, Services and Technology (IST) Department.The County of Marin’s Information Services & Technology (IST) Innovation Team is seeking an AI-Focused Systems Engineer to design, build, and operationalize artificial intelligence solutions that improve public services, internal operations, and data-driven decision-making.This role sits at the intersection of AI engineering, systems integration, and public-sector innovation, translating emerging technologies into practical, ethical, and scalable solutions for County departments.Why This RoleWork on high-impact civic problems across health, safety, housing, climate, and moreHelp shape how AI is responsibly used in local government Be part of a small, fast-moving innovation team inside a mission-driven organizationKey ResponsibilitiesDesign, build, deploy, and maintain AI-enabled solutions and Microsoft 365 applications that support County operations and services Develop and integrate AI systems (e.g., machine learning models, LLM-powered tools, automation workflows) into existing enterprise platforms, ensuring reliability, security, and scalability Build and manage data pipelines and infrastructure to support AI/ML workloads, including data ingestion, transformation, and model deployment Configure and support Microsoft 365 tools and platforms (including Copilot, Power Platform—Power Automate, Power Apps, Power BI) to enhance productivity and decision-making Partner with County departments and cross-functional teams to identify use cases, define requirements, and deliver effective solutions Prototype, test, and pilot emerging technologies, translating innovative concepts into production-ready tools Monitor and evaluate AI systems for performance, accuracy, bias, transparency, and compliance with public-sector standards Support and implement governance, security, privacy, and responsible AI practices across AI and Microsoft 365 environments Provide end-user support, training, and documentation for deployed tools and solutions Maintain documentation of architectures, standards, and best practices, and stay current on emerging technologies to drive continuous improvement

During the initial probationary period, the successful candidate may be required to work primarily onsite before establishing a hybrid work schedule.Disaster Service Workers: All County of Marin employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect.
