As an Associate Director, you will act either as a trusted advisor to a specific set of clients managing a number of engagements, or as lead on delivery of a single large engagement. You will grow a strong network internally and within a client industry, increasingly lead or originate your own sales pipeline, demonstrate market focus, develop insight and eminence, and serve as a role model and leader within your teams.

What you will be working on:

  • Advising senior leaders across in-house legal departments and law firms as a trusted business advisor, providing strategic direction on AI and technology-enabled legal transformation
  • Originating and leading new business opportunities, including scoping, pricing and commercials, leveraging your network and deep market knowledge
  • Taking commercial accountability for your portfolio, including profitability, quality and risk management across your engagements
  • Building and sustaining senior client relationships, delivering practical, evidence-based recommendations that project credibility and drive lasting impact
  • Leading multidisciplinary delivery teams, setting a clear vision, driving accountability and fostering a culture of technical excellence and inclusion
  • Being recognised internally and externally as a subject matter expert, contributing to thought leadership, shaping propositions and representing the firm at industry events
  • Collaborating across Deloitte Legal and the wider firm to identify and lead multi-disciplinary opportunities for clients
  • Assignments span the full legal market, working with in-house legal departments, contracts teams and law firms, including leading clients through AI adoption and digital transformation of their legal operations.

What you can expect in your day-to-day role:

  • Leading engagements with sound commercial judgement, enhancing the quality and rigour of client deliverables, and guiding teams in applying LMC methodologies, including recommending improvements where experience suggests they are needed
  • Modelling effective communication and structured storytelling, and engaging senior client stakeholders with confidence, providing practical, evidence-based recommendations that build lasting trust
  • Proactively identifying opportunities for broader Deloitte Legal and firm-wide offerings, connecting services across lines and articulating combined value propositions to clients
  • Managing complex engagements on time and within budget, optimising resourcing, supporting cash collection and maintaining a proactive approach to quality and risk across your portfolio
  • Mastering PowerPoint, Excel, Swift, PairD and Legora, and applying AI capabilities to drive quality and efficiency across engagements
  • Setting a clear team vision, holding yourself and others accountable for results, fostering a culture of collaboration and inclusion, and actively mentoring and sponsoring junior talent through stretch opportunities
  • Owning and developing significant client relationships, leading the scoping and commercials of new engagements including pricing, resourcing and risk, and ensuring full compliance with quality and risk management requirements
  • Building your profile as a recognised LMC subject matter expert through thought leadership and external events, and identifying and coordinating multi-disciplinary opportunities across Deloitte Legal and the wider firm

Educational and professional qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent qualification demonstrating a commitment to development
  • Professional certifications such as Prince2, PMI/APM, Prosci or Lean Six Sigma are an advantage

Legal and consulting expertise

  • Substantial consulting experience, with a strong track record of growing client relationships, leading complex engagements and contributing to commercial growth
  • Background in a legal technology vendor, major consultancy, or a legal engineering or innovation function within a law firm or in-house legal department
  • A solid understanding of how in-house legal teams and law firms operate, and the ability to translate those insights into AI and technology-enabled solutions

AI and digital transformation skills

  • Practical knowledge of AI and agentic technologies, including large language models, prompt engineering and workflow automation, and their application to legal use cases
  • Proven experience designing, building and deploying legal technology solutions, including AI-powered tools
  • Working knowledge of data governance, privacy and ethical considerations in AI deployment and ability to embed responsible AI principles into solution design
  • Experience implementing automated solutions that free legal professionals to focus on higher-value work
  • The ability to bridge legal expertise and technology, working effectively with technologists, data scientists and prompt engineers
  • Experience leading change management programmes that drive adoption of AI and automated tools within legal teams

Leadership and change management

  • A track record of leading multidisciplinary teams, including legal engineers, data analysts and third-party vendors, often across complex or global environments
  • Strong programme management skills, including agile delivery, sprint planning and budget management
  • A commitment to developing junior talent and fostering a culture of excellence, innovation and inclusion

Client relationship and business development

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to any audience
  • Proven ability to develop new business, manage senior stakeholder relationships and lead the scoping and commercials of new engagements
  • Experience at industry events or thought leadership forums, with a developing or established profile as a recognised subject matter expert

Technical and analytical skills

  • High proficiency in MS Office with expertise in data analysis and presentation
  • Ability to analyse complex data sets, design data models and present actionable insights to clients in support of technology-enabled legal solutions
  • Proficiency in Swift, PairD and Legora
