AI & Platform Engineering Lead (Hands-on Leadership)

London (hybrid, 3 days onsite, 2 days remote)

UST is seeking an AI & Platform Engineering Lead, to drive the engineering vision and execution of our enterprise AI platform, enabling scalable and client-ready AI adoption across multiple engagements.

This role sits at the intersection of architecture, engineering delivery, and product thinking. You will be instrumental in transforming AI capabilities into a production-grade, secure, scalable, and reusable platform, ready for enterprise deployment.

This is a hands-on leadership role, not purely managerial. You will influence platform direction, guide engineering teams, engage with clients, and actively contribute to architectural decisions, design validation, and engineering execution when needed.

Role Summary:

• You will lead the technical evolution of the enterprise AI platform, ensuring it is engineered using modern product engineering principles, modular, extensible, API-first, cloud-native, secure-by-design, and observable.
• Working closely with cross-functional stakeholders, including Product, Architecture, AI/ML, Cloud, Security, and Delivery teams, you will help scale the platform from an innovation-led foundation into a robust enterprise solution delivering real business outcomes for clients.

Key Responsibilities:

AI Platform Engineering Leadership

• Define and drive the end-to-end engineering strategy, including platform architecture, design standards, technical roadmap, and production readiness.

Productisation of AI Capabilities

• Transform AI platforms from prototype and experimental assets into enterprise-grade, production-ready capabilities.

Enterprise Scalability & Readiness

• Ensure the platform supports multi-client environments, high availability, security, and long-term scalability.

Modern Engineering Practices

• Embed strong software engineering discipline, including reusable design patterns, code quality, and engineering governance.

AI Engineering Execution

• Provide leadership across the AI and GenAI engineering stack, ensuring robust design and delivery.

Client Engagement & Adoption

• Partner with Sales, Solutions, and Delivery teams to position and implement the AI platform in client engagements.
• Contribute to solution shaping, technical workshops, and stakeholder discussions.

Engineering Team Leadership

• Build and lead a cross-functional engineering team spanning platform engineering, full-stack development, AI/ML, DevOps, cloud, and data engineering.

What We’re Looking For:

• Extensive experience in software, platform, or product engineering within complex enterprise environments
• Proven ability to build scalable platforms, SaaS solutions, or reusable engineering frameworks
• Extensive experience leading engineering teams or platform squads, driving both strategy and execution
• Demonstrated capability to operate across architecture, hands-on engineering, and delivery leadership
• AI / GenAI: Strong experience with LLM-based applications, RAG architectures, AI orchestration, or ML platform engineering
• Deep expertise in Azure, AWS, or GCP, with strong understanding of cloud-native services and architectures
• Strong knowledge of microservices, APIs, distributed systems, event-driven architecture, and integration patterns
• Practical experience with CI/CD, automated testing, release engineering, and deployment pipelines
• Experience evolving platforms from proof-of-concept to production, including releases, versioning, and maintainability
• Exposure to enterprise client environments, including technical workshops, solutioning, and delivery governance
• Ability to review code, validate architecture, guide engineering decisions, and unblock teams when needed
