ML/AIWork

Junior to Mid-Level Software Engineer/Scientist

CSLabs · Remote · Baltimore

Job description

Build 3D AI, deep learning, modeling & simulation, mixed reality, and autonomous systems for real-world missions.

CSLabs is seeking a software engineer with a science/engineering background—or a scientist/engineer who can build reliable, production-quality software. You’ll help turn advanced research into mission-ready tools across HPC, AI/ML, CNN-based computer vision, synthetic data, cutting-edge algorithms, 3D visualization, and autonomous maritime systems.

You’ll work with Ph.D. scientists and engineers supporting U.S. defense customers and partners. This is a high-ownership role for someone who wants to learn fast, contribute early, and build software that matters.

What you’ll work on:

  • Autonomy software for unmanned maritime systems: A*/AI-assisted routing, path planning, navigation, swarm coordination, and multi-agent support
  • MR 3D workflows for LiDAR/photogrammetry point clouds, visualization, optimization, and clash/interference detection
  • AI/ML and deep learning pipelines for synthetic data, CNN-based detection/segmentation, anomaly detection, transfer learning, fine-tuning, and model evaluation
  • Modeling, simulation, image processing, computer vision, sensor fusion, optimization, 3D reconstruction, and real-time decision support
  • Cross-platform C/C++ and Python systems with Unity, Unreal Engine, OpenXR, PyTorch, TensorFlow, simulation environments, and distributed architectures

Requirements:

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related field—or equivalent technical depth
  • Strong C/C++/C# skills and practical Python scripting
  • Experience in one or more: computer vision, AI/ML/deep learning, CNNs, AR/VR/MR, robotics/autonomy, modeling & simulation, numerical methods, scientific computing, or algorithm development
  • First-principles problem solving, numerical reasoning, attention to detail, integrity, and ownership
  • Engineering discipline: explain design choices, test assumptions, and build solutions—not just assemble snippets or rely on unvetted AI-generated code

Work model:
In-person with the CSLabs team. Hybrid work may be available for qualified candidates; this is not fully remote. Alexandria, VA area preferred; preference within 100 miles.

Eligibility:
U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident. Some projects may require additional eligibility.

Compensation & benefits:
Salary starts at $60,000-$80,000+; range increases based on qualifications, experience, location, and demonstrated ability. Includes performance-based raises/bonuses, 401(k), healthcare, 15 days PTO, paid holidays, and professional development support.

CSLabs is a demanding, high-trust team where contributors care about outcomes, communicate honestly, and do the right thing when nobody is looking.

To apply:
Send your resume and a brief note about the technical problems you want to solve to recruiting@cslabs.tech.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • 401(k)
  • Health insurance
  • Paid time off

Application Question(s):

  • MUST BE A U.S. CITIZEN OR U.S GREEN CARD HOLDER

Work Location: In person
