About the Role
We are seeking an AI Manufacturing Engineer to support the development and deployment of AI-powered manufacturing and robotics solutions. This position connects AI models, manufacturing processes, automation equipment, and production data to improve quality, efficiency, and operational intelligence.
The ideal candidate has experience or strong academic training in artificial intelligence, robotics, automation, computer vision, or advanced manufacturing. San José State University graduates and candidates with ties to the SJSU engineering community are strongly encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deploy AI solutions for manufacturing, automation, and robotic systems.
- Apply computer vision and machine learning to inspection, defect detection, process monitoring, and quality control.
- Work with robotics, sensors, cameras, production equipment, and manufacturing data.
- Build data pipelines for collecting, cleaning, labeling, and analyzing production data.
- Integrate AI models with manufacturing software, control systems, and robotic platforms.
- Conduct testing, validation, troubleshooting, and performance analysis.
- Collaborate with AI researchers, robotics engineers, manufacturing teams, and external technology partners.
- Document system requirements, test results, technical issues, and deployment progress.
- Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing efficiency, reliability, automation, and product quality.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- 2–5 years of relevant industry, research, internship, or project experience.
- Experience with Python and machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
- Understanding of computer vision, machine learning, robotics, or industrial automation.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes, sensors, cameras, PLCs, ROS, or robotic systems is preferred.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, cross-functional R&D environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate of San José State University or experience working with the SJSU engineering and robotics community.
- Experience with smart manufacturing, industrial AI, automated inspection, or robotic production systems.
- Experience deploying AI models in real-world or edge-computing environments.
- Familiarity with C++, OpenCV, ROS/ROS 2, Linux, SQL, or cloud-based data platforms.
- Experience working with manufacturing, robotics, or hardware teams.

Pay: $101,336.19 - $122,039.28 per year
