Data Scientist / Data Manager (f/m/d) - in Digital Pathology
Operational area: Institute of Pathology / LaBooratory of Nephropathology
Working hours: 100% of the collectively agreed full-time working hours (currently 38.5 hours per week)
Duration/Term of employment: Initially limited to 1 year with option of prolongation until the completion of the doctoral degree
Start date: As soon as possible
Remuneration/Rates: EG 13 (TV-L)
We are an interdisciplinary and international team of scientists and clinicians working on medical applications and projects, embedded directly within the Institute of Pathology.
Our team has a long-standing focus and expertise in developing novel methods for digital pathology, advanced image analysis and deep learning, including a novel omics approach, the next-generation morphometry and pathomics. We also put a strong focus on sustainable AI (green/energy-efficient AI), and secure and explainable AI.
Our hardware equipment comprises high-end computational infrastructure, with several GPU (NVIDIA DGX A100) and CPU clusters and storage systems. We have a unique and continuously growing collection of both preclinical data sets and large, international, multi-center data sets from patients.
Description and essential criteria
- Development and management of large-scale, multicentric pathology image datasets and associated clinical and omics data
- Curation, preprocessing, and quality control of pathology image data and metadata
- Ensuring data quality, documentation, and compliance with FAIR data principles
- Ensuring compliance with legal, ethical, and data protection regulations
- Collaboration with IT services and AI researchers in the administration of data storage systems and GPU computing infrastructure
- Development of novel approaches for pathology data management and integration into national research infrastructures
Your profile
We are looking for a data scientist and data manager to advance our research in digital pathology: A highly motivated and reliable person with the technical and organisational skills to apply existing and develop novel approaches to manage and curate large-scale pathology image data and associated clinical and molecular data both from clinical and preclinical sources used in biomedical and AI research.
- Master’s degree, PhD, or equivalent qualification in computer science, data science, biomedical informatics, engineering, or a related field
- Experience in research data management, preferably involving clinical data
- Knowledge of Linux systems, file systems, and databases
- Familiarity with data protection regulations and Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
- Programming skills and experience with image processing are advantageous
- Experience in system administration is a plus
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills in interdisciplinary environments
- Very good command of English (C1/C2 level or equivalent)
- Structured, reliable, and independent working style
- Strong interest in biomedical and AI-driven research
