Part-Time Personal & Project Assistant — Education, AI & Consulting
— · Remote · Scottsdale
Job description
I am a retired college professor, writer, consultant, and nonprofit founder seeking a dependable, intelligent, and proactive part-time assistant.
After more than three decades in higher education, I am developing consulting, writing, and speaking work focused particularly on higher education, artificial intelligence, critical thinking, and helping parents and students navigate a rapidly changing educational and employment landscape.
I am looking for someone who can help turn ideas and expertise into organized projects, client appointments, speaking opportunities, completed tasks, and revenue.
This is a combination of personal assistance, project coordination, research, outreach, and light business development. It would be especially well suited to someone who enjoys education, communications, psychology, business, writing, technology, or AI.
Responsibilities may include:
- Managing calendars, appointments, reminders, and priority lists
- Helping keep multiple projects organized and moving forward
- Researching potential clients, schools, parent organizations, libraries, professional groups, conferences, and speaking opportunities
- Building and maintaining prospect and contact lists
- Drafting and sending approved introductory emails and follow-ups
- Scheduling consulting appointments, meetings, interviews, and speaking engagements
- Helping manage LinkedIn and other professional platforms
- Repurposing articles, ideas, and presentations into professional online content
- Researching current developments in AI, higher education, and related subjects
- Helping prepare presentations, handouts, articles, proposals, and consulting materials
- Tracking client inquiries, appointments, invoices, and follow-ups
- Helping develop and market parent/student educational consulting services
- Identifying podcasts, media opportunities, conferences, and organizations where I might appear as a guest or speaker
- Organizing digital files, correspondence, paperwork, and business records
- Making occasional telephone calls and coordinating with service providers
- Running occasional local errands
- Accompanying me occasionally to meetings, appointments, speaking engagements, or events
- Providing limited mobility assistance at larger venues, such as pushing a wheelchair or carrying light items
This is not a nursing or personal-care position. No bathing, toileting, medical treatment, heavy lifting, or physical transfers are required.
The ideal candidate will be:
- Extremely dependable and punctual
- Organized and comfortable managing details
- Proactive rather than waiting to be told every next step
- A strong written and verbal communicator
- Comfortable making professional telephone calls and sending outreach emails
- Capable of researching people, organizations, and opportunities online
- Comfortable with Google Docs, email, calendars, spreadsheets, and basic office technology
- Familiar with—or interested in learning—AI tools such as ChatGPT
- Comfortable using LinkedIn and other professional/social platforms
- Patient, emotionally mature, discreet, and nonjudgmental
- Able to work independently while also keeping me informed
- Comfortable working with a creative person who generates many ideas and sometimes needs help turning those ideas into completed projects
A background or strong interest in education, communications, marketing, psychology, business, journalism, nonprofit work, or artificial intelligence would be especially welcome.
You do not need to be an AI expert. Intellectual curiosity, technological confidence, excellent judgment, and willingness to learn are more important.
Applicants should have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and a safe driving record. Mileage will be reimbursed when a personal vehicle is used for approved business errands.
Professional references will be required. Final candidates should also be comfortable completing appropriate background and driving-record checks.
To apply, please send:
- A résumé or brief summary of your relevant experience
- Your general weekday availability
- A short explanation of why this particular position interests you
- An example of a time you helped someone organize, complete, or move forward on an important project
- A brief description of your comfort level with AI tools, LinkedIn, online research, and professional outreach
Please do not send only a generic “Is this still available?” message. Thoughtful applications will receive priority.
The position will begin with a paid trial shift followed by an initial 30-day evaluation period.
My goal is to find someone who can become a trusted right-hand person: helping me stay organized personally while also helping build consulting, educational, writing, and speaking opportunities**.**
Pay: $24.00 - $28.00 per hour
Benefits:
- Flexible schedule
- Flexible spending account
