Customer Success AI Strategy & Agent Development Lead

Tempus · Chicago, US

Job description

Passionate about precision medicine and advancing the healthcare industry?

Recent advancements in underlying technology have finally made it possible for AI to impact clinical care in a meaningful way. Tempus' proprietary platform connects an entire ecosystem of real-world evidence to deliver real-time, actionable insights to physicians, providing critical information about the right treatments for the right patients, at the right time.

Passion. Purpose. Progress.

At Tempus, we’re building the world’s leading precision medicine platform, applying Generative AI to reimagine how we diagnose, treat, and care for patients. Our Tempus OS platform brings together massive amounts of clinical, molecular, and imaging data to power new discoveries and deploy intelligent systems at scale.

We’re empowering healthcare and life-science organizations to build intelligent agents that accelerate science, improve operational efficiency, and transform care delivery. To help our partners succeed, we’re introducing a new role: the Senior GenAI Solutions Engineer.

What You’ll Do

As a Senior GenAI Solutions Engineer, you will sit at the intersection of operations, product management, solutions architecture, to drive AI implementation and innovation. You will help stakeholders imagine what’s possible with GenAI, rapidly prototype solutions, and deploy robust, production-grade agents on the Tempus OS platform.

Initial Launchpad: You will embed deeply with our Customer Success (CS) and Commercial organizations as their dedicated AI Strategy Lead. In this initial phase, you will work to fully re-imagine the Customer Success model to be agentic-first. You will work with leadership to audit the organization, lead the vision of the future, and then build the agentic infrastructure to drive an elevated customer success experience for care teams and improve patient care.

Once this blueprint is established, you will expand your scope across the Tempus OS ecosystem, bringing these scalable GenAI frameworks to additional teams as well as external health systems and life sciences partners.

You will:

  • Partner with customer leaders to uncover high-impact use cases where GenAI and Tempus OS can deliver measurable value.
  • Design and implement agent-based solutions, ranging from workflow automation to patient communication, insight generation, or clinical operations.
  • Build rapid prototypes and proof-of-concepts to validate ideas and alignment.
  • Work directly with LLMs and agent frameworks, managing prompt design, chaining, context management, evaluation, and guardrails.
  • Lead moderate-to-full implementations in collaboration with customer teams or internal engineers.
  • Build integrations between customer data systems, APIs, and Tempus OS services.
  • Configure, test, iterate, tune performance, and ensure reliability.
  • Evangelize best practices in AI safety, observability, and responsible deployment.
  • Serve as the customer’s technical and strategic bridge to Tempus, shaping our roadmap through real-world feedback.
  • Create solution templates, reference architectures, and internal learning artifacts that make future deployments faster and safer.
  • Train business users, power users, and internal champions on interacting with deployed agents.

Qualifications:

Required

  • 5+ years in technical or customer-facing roles, such as solutions engineering, AI/ML implementation, or systems architecture.
  • Hands-on experience building or deploying GenAI applications, including agents, chat interfaces, or LLM-driven workflows.
  • Strong programming skills (Python, JavaScript, or similar) and familiarity with APIs, webhooks, integration patterns, and data pipelines.
  • Experience designing or building prototype-to-production AI solutions (not just proof-of-concepts), including observability, A/B testing, error-handling, and scaling.
  • Familiarity with prompt engineering, RAG, model evaluation, and orchestration frameworks like LangChain, LlamaIndex, or similar.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to interface smoothly with both clinicians and engineers.
  • Proven ability to drive projects from discovery through delivery, successfully balancing experimentation and execution.

Preferred:

  • Experience in healthcare, life sciences, or regulated industries.
  • Understanding of data privacy, PHI handling, and compliance in AI systems.
  • Experience working with customers who have limited engineering resources.
  • Track record of creating demos, proofs of concept, or internal enablement tools that accelerate adoption.

Why It Matters

The GenAI Solutions Engineer plays a critical role in our mission: turning the promise of generative AI into working, responsible, and scalable systems that make a difference in patients’ lives.

About Us

Tempus was founded in August of 2015 by Eric Lefkofsky, after his wife was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Shortly after he founded the company in an effort to bring the power of technology and artificial intelligence to cancer care, he convinced Ryan Fukushima to join as the company’s first employee. Ryan and Eric began assembling a world class team, focused on building the first version of a platform capable of ingesting real time healthcare data in an effort to personalize diagnostics.

We built the platform for oncology and have expanded it to neuropsychiatry, cardiology, infectious disease (through COVID), and radiology. Despite our rapid growth, our mission remains the same—to help make sure patients are on the right drug at the right time, so they can live longer and healthier lives.

Why Work Here?

We’re looking for people who can change the world.

Who question the status quo and don’t shy away from tough problems. For the builders who are never done building and the learners who are never done learning. We’re looking for passionate people with undying curiosity. Those who want to attack one of the most challenging problems mankind has ever faced. Head on.
