Ensure student awareness of course objectives, approach and evaluation techniques.

Carry out regularly scheduled instruction, which may include tutoring and academic counselling of students.

Provide a learning environment that makes effective use of available resources, work experience and field trips.

Evaluate student progress/achievement and assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of the student's work within assigned course

Course Description

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of engineering mechanics with a focus on statics and dynamics. Topics include force systems, equilibrium, kinematics, kinetics, and structural analysis in two and three dimensions.

What You Bring to Seneca

Education

Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Science, or a closely related field

A Master’s degree or PhD is preferred

Professional Engineering designation (P.Eng.) or eligibility for registration is considered an asset

Experience

Previous post-secondary teaching experience in Statics, Engineering Mechanics, or closely related engineering courses

Demonstrated expertise in engineering mechanics concepts across applied settings

Skills

Engineering Mechanics (Statics & Dynamics; 2D/3D kinematics and motion)

Free-Body Diagrams and Force System Analysis

Rigid Body and Particle Equilibrium

Moments, Couples, and Force–Couple Systems

Structural Analysis (trusses, beams, distributed loads)

Linear and Angular Momentum, Work–Energy Method

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

Collaborative, student-centered approach with commitment to equity in education
