JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Cloud and AI Architect is an experienced professional responsible for the design and implementation of secure, scalable, and responsible AI solutions to support government and public service missions. This role combines AI/ML expertise with architectural leadership to modernize public sector operations, improve citizen engagement, and drive data-informed decision-making while maintaining compliance, transparency, and trust.

This position requires advanced skills in multiple areas of architecture, including cloud platforms and AI technologies. The architect will communicate with stakeholders at all levels, support multiple teams and projects, and mentor other architects. A key responsibility is to work with GTA to design, develop, and implement IT architecture, AWS cloud implementations, and AI/ML solutions across State Agencies.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum 10 years of overall IT experience, including enterprise architecture experience within professional IT/software development environments.
Minimum 5 years of application architecture experience, including application development and modernization.
Extensive experience architecting, designing, and developing applications within AWS environments.
Experience developing solution architectures and evaluating private, public, and hybrid cloud models, including IaaS and PaaS services.
Proven experience designing and implementing secure, scalable, and responsible AI/ML solutions in cloud or hybrid environments.
Strong technical expertise in machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing.
Experience evaluating AI platforms, frameworks, and tools such as Azure ML, AWS SageMaker, Google Vertex AI, and PyTorch.
Experience designing secure and compliant AI/ML solutions using public cloud or hybrid environments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must meet one of the following requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, or related field.
OR
Equivalent professional experience.

Additionally:

Minimum 5 years of progressive experience with application design, solution architecture, AWS/public cloud technologies, and AI/ML platforms.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

AWS Certified Solutions Architect certification.
Experience supporting state or local government organizations.
Enterprise-wide cloud and AI integration experience.
Experience with Generative AI, chatbots, and Large Language Model (LLM) implementations.
Knowledge of cloud and AI integration standards and best practices.
Understanding of security and compliance frameworks including FedRAMP, FISMA, NIST AI RMF, and NIST 800-53.
Experience with responsible AI, AI ethics, and bias mitigation practices.
Experience supporting federal, state, or municipal digital transformation initiatives.
Cloud or AI certifications in AWS, Azure, or GCP.
