Software Engineer

At Bayer we’re visionaries, driven to solve the world’s toughest challenges and striving for a world where ,Health for all, Hunger for none’ is no longer a dream, but a real possibility. We’re doing it with energy, curiosity and sheer dedication, always learning from unique perspectives of those around us, expanding our thinking, growing our capabilities and redefining ‘impossible’. There are so many reasons to join us. If you’re hungry to build a varied and meaningful career in a community of brilliant and diverse minds to make a real difference, there’s only one choice.

As part of the Engineering Enablement platform, you will support development teams by providing tools, standards, and solutions that streamline their daily work. Your goal will be to remove technological barriers and improve the efficiency of software delivery processes. By doing so, you will empower teams to focus on building valuable products rather than dealing with infrastructure or organizational challenges.

Your Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a global development team to build and support our internal developer portal built on Backstage and tools that improve the experience of engineers across the organization.
  • Partner with developers, product managers, product designers, and business partners to identify and prioritize developer experience improvements.
  • Participate in the evaluation and adoption of new technologies.
  • Build relationships with key members of partner and consumer organizations to understand and advocate for their developer needs.
  • Advance your career by continuously deepening your technical skills and knowledge.

Who You Are

  • Possess or are working towards a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Have at least 4 years of prior software development or engineering experience.
  • Strong programming skills in TypeScript, JavaScript, and Node.js—with full-stack experience across frontend and backend.
  • Hands-on experience with React and modern frontend frameworks; familiarity with component libraries such as Material UI is a plus.
  • Passion for developer experience—you care about making other engineers’ lives easier through great tooling, documentation, and self-service portals.
  • Experience working with or building Internal Developer Portals (IDPs); experience building custom custom plugins for Backstage is a strong plus.
  • Solid understanding of backend web development with Node.js; relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred), and designing/consuming RESTful and GraphQL APIs**.**
  • Experience with AWS services (RDS, ECS, SQS, S3, or similar) and comfort working in cloud-native environments.
  • Exposure to AI/LLM integrations—experience with LangChain, RAG pipelines, or vector databases is valued.
  • Comfortable working in a monorepo environment (Yarn workspaces, Lerna, or similar).
  • Experience with testing tools such as Jest, Testing Library, and Playwright, as well as integrating with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions).
  • High-level communication skills in English.
  • Flexibility to work with a global team across time zones.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, proactivity, and a team player attitude.
  • Eagerness to learn, develop, and innovate—especially in the fast-moving AI and portal engineering space.
