AI Solutions Engineer
Black Orange Investments · Norwich, GB
Job description
About the company
The Group has stood at the forefront of electric process heating — designing and manufacturing solutions trusted by the world's most demanding industries. The opportunity ahead is transformational, the global industrial electric heaters market is set to more than double by 2036. Offshore platform electrification, green hydrogen production, thermal battery storage, carbon capture facilities, and renewable energy infrastructure as well as established energy technologies are all driving demand.
About the role
As the Group continues to grow, we are investing in Artificial Intelligence to enhance our engineering workflows, improve operational efficiency, and elevate the quality of our technical output.
This is a brand-new role created to lead the planning and implementation of AI across the business. You will work directly with engineering, operations, and commercial teams to identify opportunities, evaluate existing systems, and deploy practical AI solutions — from intelligent document processing and automated technical documentation, through to AI agents integrated into our core engineering and manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
AI Strategy & Systems Analysis
· Conduct a structured review of current systems, workflows, and data assets across engineering, production, estimating, and commercial functions.
· Identify and prioritise high-value opportunities for AI implementation, producing a phased roadmap aligned to business goals.
· Evaluate and recommend appropriate AI platforms, tools, and agent frameworks suited to a bespoke engineering environment.
AI Agent Development & Implementation
· Design, build, and deploy AI agents to automate and enhance engineering and manufacturing workflows.
· Implement AI solutions for reading, interpreting, and extracting key data from client technical specifications, drawings, and enquiry documents.
· Develop AI-assisted systems for generating, formatting, and quality-checking technical documentation, datasheets, and compliance records.
· Integrate AI tooling with existing business systems such as ERP, CRM, CAD, and document management platforms.
Technical Documentation & Document Intelligence
· Build and refine pipelines for ingesting unstructured client specifications (PDFs, drawings, Word documents) and producing structured technical outputs.
· Develop AI-driven workflows to assist engineers in producing accurate Bills of Materials, test certificates, technical submittals, and O&M manuals.
· Ensure AI outputs meet the technical accuracy standards required for industrial electric heating applications.
Stakeholder Collaboration & Change Management
· Work closely with engineering, estimating, production, and commercial teams to understand requirements and embed AI tools into daily workflows.
· Provide training, guidance, and ongoing support to staff adopting new AI-assisted processes.
· Establish clear metrics to evaluate AI performance, efficiency gains, and quality improvements.
Governance & Continuous Improvement
· Maintain robust data governance practices, ensuring AI systems handle sensitive client and project data appropriately.
· Monitor deployed solutions, gathering feedback and iterating to improve accuracy, reliability, and usability.
· Stay current with developments in AI, LLMs, and agent frameworks relevant to engineering and manufacturing contexts.
Skills & Experience
Essential
· Proven experience implementing AI solutions in an engineering, manufacturing, or technical business environment.
· Hands-on experience with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.) and AI agent frameworks such as OpenClaw, Hermes, LangChain, AutoGen, CrewAI, or similar.
· Strong ability to work with unstructured documents — PDFs, technical specs, drawings — and build pipelines to extract and process information.
· Solid programming skills in Python and/or JavaScript; comfortable building integrations and automations.
· Experience connecting AI systems to business applications via APIs and data pipelines
· Excellent communication skills — able to translate technical AI concepts for non-technical engineering and operations teams.
· Structured, analytical approach to problem-solving with a focus on practical, deliverable outcomes.
Desirable
· Background in or exposure to engineering, manufacturing, or industrial sectors.
· Familiarity with technical documentation standards, engineering drawing formats, or IEC/BS standards relevant to process heating.
· Experience with RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) architectures for document search and question-answering systems.
· Knowledge of ERP, CAD, or document management system integrations.
· Experience with OCR tools and document parsing technologies.
Benefits
· 33 days annual leave including bank holidays
· Early finish on a Friday
· Christmas shut down
· Cycle to work scheme
· Possibility of hybrid working
· Life insurance scheme
· Company pension scheme (employer matching up to 10%)
· Company private medical care
· Company sick pay
Pay: £80,000.00-£100,000.00 per year
Benefits:
