About Grendel Games
At Grendel, we create serious games that drive real change in healthcare, education, and sustainability. Our award-winning titles don’t just entertain—they make an impact.
We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled AI Engineer to join our serious game development team. In this role, you will lead the development of a comprehensive organ and tissue asset library powered by deep learning technologies, with the ultimate goal of enabling realistic laparoscopic surgery training simulations for surgeons.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement deep learning algorithms for organ and tissue segmentation, classification, and generation.
- Collaborate with medical experts to integrate domain-specific knowledge into AI models and simulation workflows.
- Develop and maintain a high-quality organ and tissue asset library for surgical training applications.
- Conduct experiments, evaluate model performance, and optimize deep learning pipelines.
- Research and integrate the latest advancements in AI, computer vision, and medical imaging into the platform.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams including developers, artists, and simulation specialists.
- Present technical findings, recommendations, and progress updates to stakeholders and senior management.
- Support the scaling and deployment of AI systems and infrastructure.
Requirements
- At least three years of experience developing and implementing deep learning models, especially for computer vision, medical imaging, segmentation and classification, and image generation.
- Master’s or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Python and deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch.
- Solid understanding of machine learning concepts, including generative AI models such as GANs and Diffusion Models
- Experience working with CT scans and medical imaging datasets: familiarity with medical imaging tools such as 3D Slicer is a strong plus.
- Experience with 3D modeling or parametric editing software, preferably Blender, or willingness to learn.
- Knowledge of MLOps practices and scalable AI infrastructure.
- Experience with Docker, containerization, and cloud platforms is highly desirable.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
What We Offer
- Join us in creating games with a purpose where your work contributes to meaningful learning and training experiences.
- A salary package aligned with market standards.
- An annual personal development budget to support professional growth.
- Autonomy and responsibility in organizing and executing your work within a flat corporate hierarchy.
- Collaboration with a passionate and innovative team in a unique setting — our historic Dutch prison turned relaxed game studio.
- Flexible work arrangements, allowing remote work for part of the week or a fully remote position.
