Senior Data Scientist with a leading Banking client (consulting through FinXL)

FinXL Professional Services is a leading IT consultancy that partners with clients to bridge the gap between business needs and technology capabilities. Since 2003, we've been delivering high-value ICT services across government, finance, telecommunications, and enterprise sectors.

FinXL is seeking a Senior Data Scientist (hands-on, production focus) to join our consulting team and be deployed with a leading Banking client on a 12 months contract in Sydney.

Responsibilities

• Deploy, monitor, and maintain data science solutions and pipelines in production.
• Partner closely with software and platform engineering teams on release processes.
• Build, refine, and maintain data science models, feature pipelines, and analytical workflows.
• Perform data extraction, transformation, validation, and comprehensive quality checks.
• Build robust model evaluation, live monitoring, and drift detection approaches.
• Ensure all developed solutions align with model risk management and AI governance frameworks.

Key Skills & Experience

• Proven experience as a Senior Data Scientist with extensive hands-on production exposure.
• Strong track record working alongside engineers on deployed systems beyond notebooks.
• Advanced Python skills tailored for data science applications and production environments.
• High proficiency in SQL and experience handling large, complex datasets.
• Familiarity with model deployment patterns, APIs, batch pipelines, and orchestration.
• Solid grounding in statistics, machine learning models, NLP, or digital automation.
• Prior experience working within regulated or risk-aware enterprise environments preferred.

Engagement Details

• 12 months contract with a Banking client.
• Hybrid working model with 3 days/ week in the office in Sydney CBD.
