AI & Operations Optimization Intern

Harris Hearth Breads · Remote · Boston

Job description

Location: Acton, MA
Type: Contract (milestone‑based). We'll agree on a price for each delivered tool. Expect that this is a few hours a week during the summer off that you can work around existing obligations. We will communicate regularly via Google Meet, E-Mail, Text etc and set target delivery dates for milestones. In between there may be some shadowing of our operations to help understand needs; and later to beta test what we develop to ensure they run smoothly.

Ideal For: Late high‑school seniors, college students, with a passion for using digital tools to sustainably improve small business operations. Get some valuable experience utilizing large scale tools and concepts to quickly produce real world results with tangible community and business impact!

Focus: AI tools, workflow optimization, SOP development, baking calculators, operational systems

Harris Hearth is a small artisan bakery building out a modern, tech‑forward operational backbone. We’re looking for a curious, motivated student who loves AI, automation, Excel, and problem‑solving — and wants to apply those skills to help a small food business scale.

This is a hands‑on role where you’ll work directly with the founder to streamline production, translate recipes into digital tools, and build systems that make our kitchen run smarter and smoother.

If you’re excited by the idea of using AI to improve real‑world workflows, this is the perfect part time summer project.

What You’ll DoAI + Tool Development

  • Build and refine AI‑powered baking calculators (hydration, scaling, enriched doughs, pasta formats) based on our recipes
  • Create fermentation logs, prep list generators, and other digital tools
  • Use Excel, and AI models to automate repetitive tasks
  • Help design simple interfaces and tools for internal use

Operational Optimization

  • Shadow production days to understand workflows
  • Translate processes into clear, reproducible SOPs
  • Help structure recipe databases and production templates

Who You Are

  • Interested in AI, automation, data, and baking
  • Comfortable with Excel/Sheets
  • Comfortable with AI models such as claude to develop real world web-hosted tools
  • Curious, observant, and excited to solve real operational problems
  • Able to work independently and deliver milestone‑based projects
  • Passionate about helping small businesses run more efficiently

This role is perfect for someone who wants to build a portfolio of real, shipped tools — a great resume builder!

What We Offer

  • A chance to build real AI tools used in daily bakery operations
  • Mentorship in bakery operations, but no actual baking.
  • Flexible schedule — work around summer jobs, classes, or travel
  • Milestone‑based pay for deliverables
  • A meaningful role in helping a small business scale intelligently
